I had a horrible customer service experience with them and posted the review on Yelp. GoWireless had Yelp take down the review because I posted it on more than one page, and Yelp will not allow it to be reposted because of this. So here is my review of GoWireless as it existed on Yelp...

I have long had a bad impression of Verizon because of poor customer service but recently I was attracted to Verizon again because the deal seemed more attractive. So I visited Go wireless in Horsham Gate, 100 Welsh Rd, Horsham, PA 19044. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S5 and was told by the manager Gary that I could return it within 30 days for a $35 restocking fee.

When I got my first bill I logged in to Verizon website and realized I was overcharged for the phone by $100, about $5/month. Go wireless isn't owned by Verizon and as such charged me more than I would've paid at a Verizon owned store. When I noticed the discrepancy I went to the store to try and get a credit or return the phone and repurchase elsewhere.

Upon visiting the store I worked with Dennis the assistant manager. I was informed that the return policy is 14 days and I was on my 15th day. I was also informed that the store manager who told me the return policy is 30 days was fired the day before and they wouldn't honor his agreement.

Dennis wasn't willing to credit me any money by charging me too much for the phone. His regional manager was in the store and wasn't willing to credit me either. Instead of accepting that I was aware of the lower price charged by Verizon and agreeing to make me happy, he and his regional manager worked to pass the buck onto Verizon.

They called a retention line and asked to increase a bonus offer I received for porting my number in, but retention was unwilling to help. After dealing with the special retention line, the buck got passed to customer service. Again, Dennis tried to sweet talk customer service into giving me a $200 credit being offered now... it was a $100 credit when I bought, for porting my line. This was in addition to the fact that I was overcharged $100 for the phone.

I'm rational and all about fair, I was willing to accept $100 any way he could do it, even though I should've been awarded $200 and the ability to take advantage of the 30 day return policy offered by GoWireless when I purchased. I later learned they could've returned it on the 15th day if they had just asked Verizon for approval. But Go Wireless didn't care about saving my business, they would rather have the $100 in their drawer than my repeat business.

As Dennis tried to sweet talk customer service we both realized the representative wasn't understanding the situation, the rep was obviously very unintelligent and also uninformed of the new $200 offer. Dennis asked for a floor supervisor. At that point I got handed the phone to speak to a customer service supervisor. I spent about 5 minutes explaining my situation including the fact that I was going to add a line, and convert my home cable to Verizon, but my decision hinged on how this was handled. If I didn't get a fair resolution, I instead would leave Verizon, pay the full cost of my phone and move on. After explaining the whole story the floor supervisor said "give me one moment and I'll look at your account for you."

What happened next was crazy... 5 seconds later someone from tech support picked up the phone and asked how they could help me. I asked for him to put me back on with the floor supervisor. He was unable to reconnect me and insisted he could handle my issues. So I spent 5 minutes explaining my story again to learn that he is unable to do anything. Dennis then tried to talk some sense into him, but realized the tech support rep didn't have the power to fix my situation and the floor supervisor did, of which I no longer would be transferred back to.

The regional manager agreed to look into this with their bosses at GoWireless corporate and maybe VZW. Go Wireless corporate was unwilling to credit me back $100. I even offered to port my sons number over in order to have an extra $100 applied in his deal somewhere... I was willing to do this even though I wasn't really ready to move my son from t-mobile yet. I was willing to work with them, to give them more business in order to help them justify the decision to credit what I was entitled to.

Through all of this, his bosses would not allow me to have the $100. I have owned a cell phone store, I used to be a regional manager for a Cingular Wireless agent. I can assure you that what his bosses did is not only greedy, but downright stupid. It makes no business sense. There is still plenty of profit in the deal they got with me, and if I leave Verizon before the 30 days is up, they get nothing.

Go Wireless is owned/run by a bunch of greedy and unfair jerks. It's not even fair to call them businessmen. They are more like bottom feeding sharks. I will never do business with them again and hope that you don't do business with them either. I also will not work with Verizon Wireless again, but if you must... go to a corporate owned store so you get the proper pricing. in just minutes. Lightweight and compact, you can bring YogaHands anywhere you go. Use them whenever you have a spare moment or as soon as you feel your hands cramping up. We developed YogaHands with the same genius design and know-how that made its companion product, YogaToes, a global success. Our hands fight a wholly different battle than our feet and we developed YogaHands around that. Yes, construction workers and builders are tough on their hands. But, the repeated hand motions of office workers and musicians can bring about as much injury and pain. In fact, according to the Department of Labor, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the cause of nearly HALF of all missed work time - across the board. Frequent, repetitive use of the hands (texting, gardening, typing, etc.) produces tension, fatigue, cramps, and swelling. Stretching and conditioning the hands releases tension in fingers, the palm and wrists.
With articulating wedges, YogaHands provide custom stretching and exercise. From athletic trainers to artists, from dentists to deejays, they all love our product. YogaHands are made in the U.S.A. of sturdy yet lightweight material. Each pair comes with a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee and a Lifetime Warranty. *Place the pointed ends of the wedges between your fingers (leaving the thumb out). *Push each of the wedges towards the palm until the desired stretch is felt. *Start with several minutes each day and work up to longer as you feel comfortable.
Having the cam buckles at the top of the trainer allows the user to easily set up the trainer's length by just looking at the handles while lengthening/shortening the straps. No need to raise the handles to adjust the trainer by the cam buckles and guess the height. This frees up the lower part of the cam buckles which results in no rubbing over ones arm. Using cords to attach the handles rotates the center strap 90 degree and lays the strap flat over one's upper arms when doing push-ups and not on its knife edge as with that of competition.

The anchors that come standard with the ELITE allow this trainer to be practically attached anywhere. Anchors included: One 8-Feet split anywhere-anchor cam buckle strap, a 2-Feet double-loop strap and our length-adjustable padded 2.5-Feet door anchor–the only of it's kind on the market. All utilize D-rings for easy attachment-doors, branches, rafters, bars (at the gym), even smooth posts in the park are no problem for this system. Having a strap (Equalizing loop) between the cam buckles allows for an equalization of the height of the handles if they are not adjusted evenly. No shiny boxes here. No DVDs to collect dust. Millions of people around the world squat while using the bathroom instead of sitting on the toilet seat with your feet on the ground. Squatting "can help with straining issues such as hemorrhoids, pelvic organ prolapse, constipation, bloating and IBS." The current market leader in bathroom squatting solutions is an American manufactured product featured on Shark Tank called "Squatty Potty."
If you find yourself in this position you should give the American made "Chord Buddy" a try. Chord Buddy is a unique tool that helps people learn the guitar by simply pressing a button. The Chord Buddy is attached to the guitar over the strings and instead of fighting the pain of the fingers on strings, you simply press a button. As you become more comfortable with the guitar you can slowly remove buttons thereby exposing the strings and playing in a traditional method.

Travis Perry, the inventor of Chord Buddy appeared on Shark Tank and wowed the panel. He received 4 good offers, and ended up taking a deal with Robert Herjavec who wants to be a rock star but had a tough time learning guitar before meeting Travis.

As is typical, Kevin O'Leary argued on behalf of Chinese manufacturing (he's certainly not wonderful). Mark Cuban argued on behalf of social responsibility and the virtues of American made. Travis wasn't about to sell out, he's only interested in producing his chord buddy in America. They currently employ 15 people in the lower Alabama area which Travis affectionately refers to as "LA."

If you are trying to learn the guitar, the Chord Buddy is a must have... and it's made in the USA! Spirit Hoods are faux fur fashion accessories to cover your head with warmth and animal patterns. The faux fur designs are unique as they flow down to waist height. Spirit Hoods were featured on Shark Tank however the sharks thought that the Spirit Hood was a fad. Maybe it is, but that's not what caught our eye. We were happy to see that these interesting head coverings were made in Los Angeles.

Spirit Hoods are proud to be made of faux fur, as they are a socially responsible company who likes American made and preserving the natural life in our environment.

Taylormade assembles some balls made of foreign parts in America.

Titleist let us down for the first time in 2014 when boxes of Titleist balls hit the market with "Made in China" and "Made in Thailand" on them. Until this year every Titleist ball ever made was the result of US manufacturing. Bridgestone currently makes most of their balls in America, including all of their high end golf balls. Both companies are headquar tered in Asia. Titleist is now owned by Fila of South Korea and Bridgestone is headquartered in Japan. Both companies are publicly owned.

Callaway was founded and headquartered in the United States. They are a publicly traded company and are producing all of their balls in the USA with the exception of a portion of their Supersoft ball.

In 2014 Bridgestone started an ad campaign promoting their increase in American production. A commercial with David Feherty shows off the Covington, Georgia facility. Bridgestone has produced balls in Georgia under the Precept and Bridgestone brands since the 1990s.

As of 2014, expansion at the plant in Georgia is complete. This has allowed Bridgestone to move production of all of their premium models (13 models: B Series, e Series, & Lady Precept). Prior generation models or product made prior to this transition might be foreign made. Check the side of the box to ensure you're purchasing American!

The increase in production at the Covington plant comes as they celebrate an important milestone. In 2013, Bridgestone Golf completed manufacturing of the company’s 50 millionth dozen of golf balls. Since 1990, when Bridgestone began production of its golf balls in the United States under the Precept brand name, the company has produced more than 600 million golf balls at its Covington facility. If one were to line up 600 million golf balls side-by-side, the line of balls would cover 15,782 miles, stretching from Covington, Georgia to Tokyo, Japan and back.

Bridgestone has tried to carve out a niche in the ball fitting category however the process is rather easy. Their best balls are the B series balls, and if you can't afford them, try the e series.
CALLAWAY GOLF BALLS

Callaway has brought much of their foreign production back to America this year after cutting 200 American manufacturing jobs in 2010. They have sold their Chicopee, Massachusetts factory to a real estate management company but continue to rent from that company. Callaway has plans to maintain the 150+ manufacturing jobs in Chicopee for at least the next 5 years. This year Callaway has their largest American product line yet.

There are websites claiming to be selling other brands of golf balls made in the USA. I have heavily researched every box, site, and golf product in the industry and find no reason to believe they are other balls being manufactured in the USA.

Invis-A- Rack was featured on Shark Tank a few years ago and it's owner/inventor Donny McCall walked out without a deal. He could've had a deal however he stuck to one basic principle: Manufacture in America. Invis-A-Rack is a patented truck cargo system that adds storage racks to a pickup truck with a transformer like method.

It was proposed in the Shark Tank by Kevin O'Leary that if Donny moved manufacturing overseas he would earn more and need to hire more people in America on the sales and marketing end. Apple was used as an example of a company that makes product overseas to support a very large American staff.

Donny, a principled bible believing man stuck rested on his laurels. He refused the Chinese production suggested by the sharks. When the show aired, he sold through his inventory. To help keep inventory levels in the correct territory
Invis-A-Rack is now manufactured by DeeZee. It is of course, Made in the USA!

Thanks Donny for your dedication to American manufacturing.
No trees were hurt in the making of this tee. Me and my buddies have a joke about the Epoch tee, we think it's a flawed business plan. The problem is that the tees are too durable. You'll only need about 1 tee per round, a single box of 50 could last years. A friend of mine went 28 rounds of golf on a single Epoch evolve golf tee! Instead of cracking, the tee is likely to fly, so losing it 20 yards away from your teeing location might require a replacement tee. I can't remember ever seeing one actually break. They do no damage to driver heads under extreme swing speeds, we've got plenty of proof for that. Buy the Epoch tee from Golfsmith here.
Over the last 25 years almost all production of golf clubs has been moved to China, Japan, and other locations overseas. Most of the production was moved overseas to cut costs, but some was necessitated by EPA law which makes certain powder coatings, and titanium construction golf equipment impossible to make in America.

Informed consumers will find that PING (Karsten Manufacturing Corporation) is heavily American and manufactures more golf clubs in America than any other manufacturer.

Not only does PING make golf equipment in the USA but they also are the only family owned company of any well known manufacturer. The other companies are all traded on stock exchanges and function with the primary goal of returning value to shareholders. The company was started out of a garage in Redwood City, CA by Karsten Solheim.
In the 1970's and 1980's while the patent was in it's first 20 years it was very common for people to order PING equipment after seeing a PING ad and using the fitting chart that PING patented in 1966 to be measured at home. Today 98% of the clubs on the market are perimeter weighted, but in the 70's if you wanted forgiveness in a golf club you could only buy it in PING Eye irons. Karsten was the first "rocket scientist" to work on golf clubs, today if you aren't one you're probably not designing golf clubs. I'm just getting started, and won't bore you with the long version but socially responsible consumers will find that buying PING isn't just an American thing, it's the right thing. Sure, patents only last 20 years, but doesn't it make sense to purchase from the manufacturer that created the technology? But lets get back on the main topic, which golf clubs are made in the US.

Today the only golf club foundry in America is in Dolphin, Arizona. Karsten bought the foundry in the 1970's. Watch this video tour of the foundry. At that point the foundry could make all the golf clubs the American market needed. As the other manufacturers lowered pricing by moving overseas, EPA laws changed, and production at Dolphin exceeded factory capacity PING started producing clubs overseas. Today the Dolphin foundry employs tons of Americans who make PING equipment in Arizona at full capacity at all times. This predominantly includes, replacement irons for loss, and overflow need of specific irons on an as needed basis. Milled PING putters are all American made, and the grooves on the 2013 Tour Gorge wedges are milled in America.

There is a differentiation between the overseas production of PING and their counterparts. PING owns their own plants in Japan and Vietnam. The plants are run by a Solheim, and the employees are PING employees. Some of those employees are American citizens, and have worked at the Arizona locations at some point in their career. PING has extreme loyalty from both their consumers and their employees. And yes, of course I play all PING.

PING has more club components produced in America than any other brand. There are quite a few people with G10, G15, G20, or G25 irons out there completely made in America.

Some G10, G15, G20, G25 sets of heads were made in America

ALL replacement iron heads of any style of any year is made in Arizona.

All steel shafts from PING are made in the USA.

PURE golf grips are available from PING and they are made in America.

I want all American golf clubs (irons)

You could purchase a set of PING Eye 2 irons. If you buy them online, get the serial number and confirm authenticity with PING by calling 1-800-4-PING-FIT. Eye 2 and prior are all American, and you'll be supporting an American when you buy them second hand.

Take your irons to a PING fitter and ask to be fit. Ask the fitter to recommend a new shaft, the old ones are too old but the heads are not! Get fit for length, lie angle, flex, and grip. You might have to pay for the fitting. Then have your clubs sent to PING, to return them to new. You can get the heads retumbled and they will look new when they come home. PING Eye 2 irons from 80's-90's can only be adjusted 1-2 color codes so have someone help determine your wrist to floor measurement (don't do it yourself!!!!!!!!). Once you know your measurement, buy your irons as close to that color code as possible. Don't worry about which shaft is in there, you're going to have PING reshaft them. Make sure to pick an American grip (not Golf Pride anymore). Use PURE Grips, Tacki Mac, Star, or Mint grips for American made grips!

You should pay $40-175 for a set of PING Eye 2 irons. Go to Golfsmith for a free 5 minute fitting and have them send the clubs back. Reshafting with a new grip will cost $20-$50 per club depending on shaft. Lie angle change will cost about $4 per club. All of the work will be done at the Phoenix, AZ office. You could be playing an all American club that is of extreme historical importance to golf for about $300.

With all that said, if playing good golf is your primary goal you really should not be playing irons from before the year 2000. You can make any comment you want about how you play good with your dads old clubs, PING Man scientifically verifies that every club made is better than it's predecessors. We are many years more advanced scientifically than we were 20, 30, 40 years ago. Todays PING irons are better than any they've ever made. Are you reading this on a 30 year old computer right now? Would it even be possible?

Some other great major differences between PING and other brands:

A very large manufacturing/repair/warranty division in Phoenix cares for your clubs many years past year 1.

Warranted against manufacturer defects for a very long time, in some cases... lifetime.

Only cast iron that can have a lie angle adjustment after purchase.

They are the industry leader in tolerances and quality control.

If you lose an iron you can order an exact replica of the missing iron, forever. That replacement head will be hand poured by an American citizen in Dolphin, Arizona!

All PING carry bags are assembled in America at the Phoenix plant. The bag itself is made in Canada or Mexico.

PING stock shafts are used as a means to improve quality of golf. No expense is spared.

Scotty Cameron Heads are made in the USA (shaft and grip are Chinese).

Scotty Cameron makes his popular putter heads in America! Sure Scotty copies PING designs, but you can't take away the beauty that he brings to putters. These are gorgeous putters that resemble artwork. They even have a custom shop to focus on paint colors, and other personalizations that make your putter unique to you. The grip and shaft to a Cameron come out of China. The parent company for Titleist is FILA of South Korea.

Some Steel Shafts are made in the USA

True Temper makes all their steel shafts in America from American steel.

The NS line of shafts is made in Japan. NS stands for Nippon Steel, a Japanese company.

KBS/FST is made in Taiwan.

The Rocketfuel shaft from Taylormade is made with American Carpenter Steel in America.

That can't be all the clubs made in the USA can it?

No, it's not. There are more. There are a few small companies with some all American golf clubs. TaylorMade, Callaway, Nike, Cleveland, Adams, and Mizuno assemble many of their clubs in America, from foreign parts.

As part of the plan for increased United States-based production, Bridgestone Golf will manufacture its popular TOUR B330-RX family of Urethane-covered golf balls in Georgia, beginning in June 2012.

This has allowed Bridgestone to move production of all of their premium models (13 models: B Series, e Series, & Lady Precept) to the states for 2014.

Also pictured are two Hex balls from the 2013 Callaway lineup. The Hex Chrome ball is a pure American ball, a good ball for all skill levels as well. As stated on the box The Hex Black Tour is "assembled in the USA from US and/or Chinese components."

That's it! It's as simple as that for 2013 if you want to buy American, it's Titleist, some Bridgestone, and the Hex Chrome ball from Callaway as well.
In reality, its a rarity to find the Made in America tag anymore on either of those companies products. Here are the list of companies that still proudly manufacture jeans in America...

All American Clothing:

By keeping their production in the USA they provide jobs and a tax base that supports American communities.

Texas Jeans

Texas Jeans was founded long ago with one idea in mind. Keep it American. Owner and President Wallace Thompson wanted to have a jean that was top quality, rugged, and great fitting. But he also wanted to keep the price so everyone could take advantage of this idea. Many other big name brand jean companies moved their production overseas to keep their costs down, yet for some reason the price of the jean went up! Mr. Thompson vowed his factory would never go overseas, nor would he compromise quality for cash. He would bring a great fitting, high quality, reasonably priced jean to the masses.

Buddy's Jeans

Buddy's ® Jeans were designed and originally manufactured by Buddy Steverson of New Hebron, Mississippi. Buddy worked as a rancher and rodeo cowboy, as well as a manufacturer all his life. Living this way, he found out first-hand the kind of jeans it takes to hold up when you work from can to can't. He could not find a single pair in the stores that would pass his test. Most of the jeans he bought would have twisted leg seams after the first washing.

The front pockets would have holes worn in them long before the garments wore out -- especially when he had them full of staples, keys or change. At the time he started developing Buddy's ® Jeans his size was an in-between (odd size) that no store handled. This caused Buddy to wear a jean too large and made him realize there were people all over the world with this same problem. He wanted jeans that were tough, durable, comfortable, and yet affordable.
As America's largest retailer and employer we must insist that they act socially responsible. Yesterday we learned that Wal-Mart has created a PR stunt designed to make consientious consumers like myself happy. Wal-Mart claims that they are willing to hire 100,000 veterans over the next five years within 12 months of the service person being honorably discharged. They also claim they will increase the dollar amount of American-made products they purchase by $50 billion over the next ten years. Don't get excited, these aren't changes. In fact, Americans should be insulted. I stand by what I said that Walmart is anti-American.

Allow me to explain why the Walmart initiatives aren't worth applauding. The following quotes and data come from an article by Christopher Matthews in Time.

Walmart employs 1.3 millions sales associates in the U.S., and because of their horrible pay and treatment of employees they have an astonishingly high turnover rate of 37%. Therefore Walmart needs to hire 480,000 people per year to replace the outgoing workers. They are boasting that they will hire 100,000 veterans over 5 years, or 20,000 workers per year, this represents 4.16% of their inbound workforce. But veterans make up a much larger portion of the population than 4%. In fact the civilian veteran workforce is over double that number at 9% of the working population. If Walmart wants to impact the unemployment problem amongst veterans they would need to hire a larger percentage of veterans than 9% of new hires, they're not. Even if we give Walmart the benefit of the doubt, let's pretend for a moment that Walmart is a good place to work (far fetched I know but work with me), and we assume that all of the veterans who are hired stay at the company, they will still make up only 7% of the associates. Shame on Walmart for releasing this as if they were helping, they're actually acting socially irresponsible again, but this time they're preying on people who pride themselves on being patriotic. Walmart is not patriotic, Walmart is anti-American.

Walmart also claimed they will buy $5 billion more in American products per year over the next 10 years. They want us to believe they are doing Americans a favor when they mention that they already spend 66% of their money on products made stateside. However, a huge portion of Walmart's business is grocery and if you ever notice, it is very easy to find American produced products in the grocery store. It is not as easy to find American made products in a clothing store. Walk the aisles of apparel, sneakers, slippers, electronics, sporting goods, housewares and note that those products made in America represent far below the 66% number Walmart is boasting. Last year grocery and consumables (the almost all American department) comprised 55% of Walmarts net sales.

"According to Walmart’s 2012 annual report, the firm increased its cost of sales (an accounting term that basically tells you what it pays its suppliers for products) by more than $21 billion from 2011 to 2012. This figure is more or less in line with annual increases in Walmart’s recent history. In other words, in a typical year of late, Walmart buys $21 billion more products than it did the previous year. Walmart doesn’t break out what percentage of these incremental costs are attributed to Walmart U.S., Walmart International, or Sam’s Club, but if we assume that the proportions mirror those of the firm’s operating profits, that would mean Walmart U.S. spends about $15 billion more each year on products than it did the year before.

So by promising to buy $5 billion more each year in U.S. sourced products, Walmart is promising to spend one-third of its annual new spending on U.S.-sourced products. Not bad, right? But Simon claimed in his speech yesterday that “items that are made here, sourced here, or grown here account for about two-thirds of what we spend to buy products at Walmart U.S.” If this is true, then shouldn’t Walmart promise — at the very least — to maintain that two-thirds proportion in its new spending?" - Time

Don't believe the hype, it's only hype. Walmart isn't doing us any favors. They are still a driving force behind outsourcing, the income disparity between rich/poor, dwindling benefits, the increase of part time workers over full time workers, and the destruction of the American small business.

“No other company has played as pivotal a role as Walmart has in the demise of U.S. manufacturing over the last 30 years,” senior researcher Stacy Mitchell said in a statement. “Its relentless insistence that suppliers provide ever lower prices has forced countless companies to shift production overseas, eliminating jobs and undermining America’s industrial capacity.” - ABC News

Americans should want better out of our largest employers, we are turning into a nation of have nots, and we are doing it to ourselves.
Founded in 1914, the oldest popcorn company in America is still proudly representing the Made in America tag on their products. Jolly Time was a grass roots organization started in the basement of Cloid Smith's house with the help of his son Howard. Cloid developed the first way to correctly package popcorn and sell it to the masses. As time went on, popcorn was considered the perfect snack food and more people began falling into the popcorn craze.

Over time the market became more competitive for Jolly Time. They forged new marketing strategies by hiring spokespeople and having their product advertised on American game shows. Because of competition, Jolly Time decided to get innovative. They ditched their famous metal container that was used to cook popcorn on a stove, and replaced it with a plastic bag suitable for microwaving. They were the first company to make this change that the entire industry uses today.

Today, Jolly Time still manufactures their popcorn in America exactly where they started at Sioux City, Iowa. Jolly Time offers multiple different flavors including healthy 100 calorie popcorn bags, original, 94% fat free, white kernel, yellow kernel, and over 7 different kinds of butter flavors. With the amazing variety and taste Jolly Time offers on top of it being made in America, buying this popcorn over other companies is a no-brainer!

Popular competitor Orville Redenbacher is also made in the United States and is a wholly owned subsidiary of ConAgra Foods.
About 16% of Americans are impoverished, or about 47 million people. As the number of people who rely on government assistance grows, and those people fall into the lowest tax bracket, the middle class and wealthy are relied on more heavily to help cover the large debt that America has accumulated. The American landscape is much different today than before outsourcing. Small business has disappeared and been replaced by mega-corporations that often have one business principle and one alone: massive profits. And if poorly compensating employees and finding ways to avoid providing benefits helps add to the bottom line, then you can bet that big business is doing it. The wealthy stock holders are getting wealthier, the poor employees are getting poorer. In the last 5 years America has lost 6.9 million full time jobs while part time jobs increased by 3.1 million.

Companies like Wal-Mart have become an extreme detriment to American society. Forget for a minute that they've made profiting at a small business nearly impossible, Wal-Mart is America's largest employer and it's least patriotic. By the numbers it is clear that Wal-Mart leadership is Anti-American. The average Wal-Mart employee is so poorly compensated that they require about $2,000 in government assistance for healthcare, foodstamps, and susbsidized housing. They have a higher percentage of people on government assistance than any other American company. Clearly Wal-Mart illustrates a total lack of social responsibility.

Not only does the Wal-Mart CEO make more in an hour than his average employee makes in a year, but try finding American products in a Wal-Mart. I can not name a business that has contributed to sending American manufacturing jobs overseas more than the "high cost of low prices" business model advocated by the anti-American Wal-Mart Corporation. Even the American flags at Wal-Mart are made in China.

While companies like Wal-Mart destroy your way of life, Americans have been searching for answers. A movement is gaining steam, one that is not unknown but has been forgotten for quite a few years. The "Made in America movement" is slowly forcing business to rethink how it makes it's profit. Albeit slowly, people all around this beautiful country realize that their collective purchasing power is strong, and we can make an impact simply by diverting some of our purchases of foreign products to American products. Why buy Chinese clothing when we can buy American clothing? Why buy foreign import beer when craft breweries here at home will pay taxes here at home? The list goes on and on.

At a time when the American economy needs a boost more than ever before, many incredible American citizens are spending more money on made in America products. This movement is growing! Alex Smith and Aaron Lorell are part of the movement. They are currently on a cross country journey in a firetruck to advertise the need to buy American. They call it the "Made in America" tour. AS they travel the country they are advocating for business to make it easier for us to buy American by creating "Patriot Zones" or aisles that sell nothing but products that are made in America.

I don't think any of us expect the anti-American Wal-Mart to add a "Patriot Zone" but maybe you can play a role in encouraging small businesses near you to help segregate the items made in America. Tell your local business owners that you want them to purchase more products made in America. There is a growing number of Americans willing to help solve our economic woes by purchasing American made goods. It would be easy enough for Amazon to add a search option for "Made in America" and allow retailers to mark their items as such. If they don't want to alienate international business they could offer a search option for other "made in X" as well.

Adding the "Made in America" designation is not just patriotic, it's a smart business decision. Chinese consumers have recently shown they are willing to pay a premium for products made in America. Much of the world likely feels the same way. And if the old rumor that American made goods are more expensive, this is a chance for Amazon to generate more revenue, since people are willing to spend more for the USA label. I don't believe the rumor is true, in fact I posted an example last week of kitchen spoons, that you save a ton of money buying American.
Well the joke no longer seems so funny as we learn about the real life version.

This Christmas we learned about Halloween items sold in the USA produced in Chinese slave labor camps under threat of violence. Julie Keith of Damascus, Oregon found a handwritten letter placed in old Halloween decorations from an imprisoned worker imploring her to help by giving the letter to the World Human Right Organization.

This story caps off a year muddled in stories of poor working conditions in China. Conditions are poor enough for the laborers who make your iPod to commit suicide. Is it really worth the small savings? Inexpensive Chinese goods come at a price. In October we learned that Foxconn put up to 200 14-16 year old "interns" on the manufacturing line. The minimum working age in China is 16. They will likely be working 60 hours at 18. It's not enough that paid workers make next to nothing and work in horrible conditions but they need to get kids to work for free?

Foxconn manufactures the iPad, iPhone, iPod, Kindle, Playstation 3, and the Xbox 360.

Today many Americans are asking themselves what do we do? What is our responsibility as ethical consumers? We might not have realized it is this bad as we now learn of a unique letter placed in Halloween decorations by an imprisoned Chinese worker.

The letter that Julie Keith found in old Halloween decorations urged her to take action to help the workers who are now slaves after committing small crimes. Many of these Chinese workers are held without a trial. They're held without trial for crimes like theft, prostitution, and abusing drugs. The United Nations Human Rights Council reports that 190,000 Chinese citizens are locked up in 320 "re-education" centers in 2009, this is in addition to the 1.6 million people who were jailed in their prison system. The 50 year old "re-education" through labor program is known as "laodong jiaoyang." Isn't this enough for you to spend a little more energy seeking American products when utilizing your buying power?

The letter from the imprisoned worker reads,

"If you occassionally buy this product, please kindly resend this letter to the World Human Right Organization. Thousands [of] people here who are under the persecution of the Chinese Communist Party Government will thank and remember you forever. This product produced by Unit 8, Department 2 Mashanja, Labour Camp, Shenyang, Liaoning China. People who work here, have to work 15 hours a day without Saturday, Sunday break and any holidays, otherwise they will suffer torturement beatings, rude remarks, nearly no payment (10 yuan/month).
The Halloween decorations were purchased at Kmart, they released a statement:

"Sears Holdings has a Global Compliance Program which helps to ensure that vendors and factories producing merchandise for our company adhere to specific Program Requirements, and all local laws pertaining to employment standards and workplace practices. Failure to comply with any of the Program Requirements, including the use of forced labor, may result in a loss of business or factory termination. We understand the seriousness of this allegation, and will continue to investigate."

When the Slinky was made in the 1940s, shortly after inventor Richard James created James Industries. James used spring steel to create his product and it was a big hit; he sold his entire inventory of 400 within 90 minutes. James Industries stayed alive for over 45 years and eventually sold it in 1998 to Poof Products, Inc. Thanks to Richard James, the slinky was developed in America and made in America and thankfully Poof Products, Inc. is keeping the tradition going!

Poof Products continues to sell slinkies made in America as well as some of their other products. The products made by Poof are easy to find and easy to buy because they are available in over 25 different stores as well as Amazon. Poof sells Slinkies, magic sets, mini construction sets, science kits, board games, as well as dog slinkies and upgraded versions of the slinky such as ones with gold plating. Poof's headquarters are in Plymouth, Michigan just south-east of 8 mile and west of Detroit. For being a fairly new company, just hitting their 23rd anniversary this year they have become very popular among gifts for children and employ over 200 American citizens who pay taxes and spend their income in America!
The article posits that the cooking tool company in which the author is proud to be part of, relies on inexpensive Chinese manufacturing to stay afloat. He argues the business is positive for America because it uses American shipping materials and shipping from UPS. They also pay a lawyer and accountant, and reinvest all their profit.

There are certainly arguments for Chinese manufacturing but we should also keep in mind the arguments for American manufacturing. The biggest reason to restore American manufacturing is that it creates American jobs. It's that simple.

Could you imagine the economic impact of the cooking tool company in which it seems Ruhlman and his partner have no employees? That company might as well be Rada Cutlery producing their cutlery in the USA.

There are some situations in which I am compelled, dare I say forced to buy foreign made products. Take my Samsung Galaxy or Apple Ipod, I have no American manufactured option. But instead of buying Michael Ruhlman serving spoons, this one for $33 and this one for $29 I would choose to buy a $14 package of spoons from Rada Cutlery that includes both styles. Why now would I buy 2 spoons that are made in China for $62 when I could buy better ones made in America for $14?

It pays to be a smart consumer... pays America. I'm happy to be a customer.
